Cars, Bikes, Jealousy and Preparations

DaElf

It has been one week since we started our adventure down the rabbit hole, and what a week. While some of us were able to enjoy the high torque action of burnouts, go to whoa, cruises, of what has been labelled the year of the blown V8’s at Summer Nats, others have been stuck with countless hours of prep for features. As such I thought you were over due for an update.

We created a YouTube channel. (you should see the link over on the side) This will service two purposes, first and foremost this will be where the videos used with the articles will be uploaded. But secondly and along with the Facebook Page created last week, we plan to upload some of the behind the scenes stuff, which might be good for a laugh. As we don’t plan to display all the behind the scenes content on here don’t forget to check it regularly or subscribe, to ensure you don’t miss anything. Now I know what your thinking, “Dirriel, I just went to the YouTube channel and there is no videos there, what the hell is going on?” Well I said we created the channel, I didn’t say we had uploaded anything yet. But as we submit the articles, so to will the videos be uploaded, I promise..

The first bike to be featured (a custom chopper to be exact) has been selected, and Ash is madly running around organising the photo shoot, shoot location and studio, along with all the details. Sounds easy right? Well you might be surprised, and I might even upload a video of what he has been up to.

Ben, our southern counterpart for which most of us are jealous of this week, attended Summer Nats and is working on the story, scheduled for next week. Keeping with the Torque’s Cheap goal this may not be your typical Nats article, so keep you eye out for that one.

Other efforts include the equally important, but not so exciting jobs of website development, logo and merchandise design, scouting of future rides, sponsorship set up, and the list goes on so I wont bore you with the details, but you get the idea.

So as we approach the bottom of the rabbit hole, and get even closer to having the first lot of content ready for upload, the excitement continues to grow. I must admit I had not planned on letting everyone know that this site was here until the first few stories were up. However, as word of mouth started to spread within the first couple of days, the Facebook Page being created I was a little surprised the by how quickly people began to join. Don’t get me wrong I know in the grand scheme of things our following is only small, and for this initial support we are very grateful.

Cheers

If you have to ask why, you will never understand.

DaElf

It’s a question I get regularly if not daily. Why? Why spend all that money and time on cars and bikes? Do you really get that much enjoyment out of them.

Well the short answer is yes. You see I’m a car person, and at times a bike person. From the moment they where first invented people have been trying to add improvements.

One could argue what started out as enthusiasts trying to improve on this great invention, turned into something even Henry Ford would never have seen coming. As the years rolled on more and more people were aiming for better styling, improved handling and more speed. Now days we have so many breeds of car enthusiasts, and we have all been called so many things over the years. But no matter your preference on brand, engine size, aspiration or motorsport of choice, one thing that is the same is the passion we share.

I don’t know maybe its just me, but I find it difficult to portray what it is about cars that captures me. From the sound of a tough V8 that has the ability to turn a World of Warcraft geek into a full blown greaser in of seconds, to the unforgettable first time you feel you eyes sting from Nitro fumes, maybe its sudden push back in your seat feeling from mashing the pedal, or the rush of adrenaline as you pull your first skid.

Whatever it is that got you hooked, you will soon learn for the true die hards its not just a hobby or a weekend passion. It’s a life style, where most things revolve around cars, bikes & motors.

And lets face it, If you have to ask why, the chances are that you will never understand why we do it.

It’s alive.. Alive..

DaElf

Welcome to Torque’s Cheap.
If you are reading this it is most likely because someone sent you a link or you saw a link on another website, thus making you one of very first people to see us.

The basic idea for this site is simply, we decided that we did like the way more car and bike magazine where going and thought we could do a better job, and have a little bit of fun along the way.

But as we know nothing of publishing a printed magazine? Nothing, would even know where to start, however websites we know. So we thought, why not just make an online magazine, and here we are. Early days I admit but it is starting to come together.

So now what. Well as we are trying to get enough content together to publish the first month we thought we would start to let some people know about the site and the idea. And hopefully you can provide some ideas of your own.

The other great advantage of an internet based magazine is this. Standard print publications can be referred to as a single contact, thus meaning the magazine is printed, and sold to the read. But short of the reader writing a letter and sending it in, and having the good luck of having it published, there is no real interaction between the publishers and the readers.

Enter the new media internet concepts.
Here we can publish and have subscribers interact.

I know what your thinking, this is the internet and its been around for a while, so this is really nothing new. Well that not exactly true, it’s new for us. As we are sick of standard print media writing about the same stuff month after month, we believe we can create an interesting alternative. On top of which while some publications have websites that support the printed content that they release, these are not the main focus for them. I’m not aware of many online publications and certainly not many for automotive enthusiasts.

And what’s better is that we are not charging for this. If it was a new printed publication you would have to purchase it from your local news agent, and unlike some other publications that have internet based content we don’t plan to charge for this in the future.

So let me officially welcome you to Torque’s Cheap.
I hope you stick around, have a beer and enjoy the content soon to come.

Cheers
Dirriel.
